    Placerville Union Cemetery

Placerville Union Cemetery, which is located in town on a hill just north of the intesection of Highways 49 and 50, is the oldest currently active cemetery in town. It was started in 1871, by six fraternal organizations, and has been in continuous use ever since. However, almost all the plots have already been used, and any remaining space is in existing family plots. The cemetery covers about 4.75 acres with over 6,000 plots, in addition to some more recent mausoleums on the top of the hill.

    Blairs-Winkelman Family (Adams Ranch) Cemetery

The Blairs-Winkelman cemetery, on the west end of Adams Ranch, is a family plot in the larger Johnson's Ranch Cemetery, an area three acres or so in size that was established in 1849 or 1850 on land owned by Placerville pioneer John Calhoun Johnson, also called Jack Cock-eyed Johnson. Besides members of Johnson's family (probably two of his children, and his brother-in-law Eben Hagerdon), the cemetery contains many past inhabitants of White Rock (once a mining town west of Johnson's Ranch), Six-Mile House (the site of Johnson's trading post on the Carson Valley route), Johnson's North and South canyons, and the surrounding vicinities.

The Blairs-Winkelman part of the cemetery is a fenced enclosure, located southwest of the locked gate on Cleese Road, that contains members of the related Hassler, Winkleman, Adams and Pryde families. There are other graves hidden in the trees outside the enclosure, including plots of the John Broman and Samuel Butler families. Many graves are now unmarked, the tombstones having been damaged beyond repair, and some probably stolen.
